Category Archives: Dancing
I am, one of the few people who are not quite talented at dancing. I can’t deny it’s rooted within my family bloodline that we don’t dance that well. Maybe we all dance but not everyone looks good at it. I love to watch people dance, it’s very enticing to the eyes to see good dance performances. Here’s the low down for aspiring dancers like me. Learn to dance in these simple tricks I asked from a few friends who are good dancers.
1. One Step At A Time.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with as single step. Let’s step up for the challenge and break out from our shells. My friend told me once that when she was still a child at three, it was really her dream to become a ballerina. She played her doll and taught it how to dance and now, she’s teaching actual human beings how to dance ballet. She said it was more of a passion rather than just a profession. Imagine, at a very fragile age, she already had a great big dream and she pursued it. At that age, she can barely jump and run but she took little baby steps, one step at a time. She was falling every now and then but never gave up. It will take a lot of guts to rise every time you fall but each step you take will bring you closer to being a good dancer.
2. Practice, Practice And More Practice.
If practice makes perfect then perfection is what we aim for. A lot of people never really had that inborn talent to dance but still, they tried. When you see your brothers and sisters dancing hilariously, don’t think of becoming one of them. You can break the curse of lack of talent and convert it to potentials. You must be in control and learn to practice more. Repetition is one key to earn mastery in steps. It’s not about redundancy when you repeat things; it’s how you do it and how you perfect each step.
So schedule a practice time everyday. Learn to dance by practicing well.
3. Invite Fiends Over.
Your mom and dad can’t really understand why you love street dancing; try to confide in your friends instead. Ask them over at your place and find out what they think about your dance moves. It’s wise to ask other’s opinions first specially if you’re still a beginner. We can’t see the world through a mirror; what’s right for us might not be right for others. When you hear them out, you’ll discover your strengths and points of improvements. That way, your aims are more focused and realistic.
4. Don’t Go Overboard.
Trying too hard beyond your abilities would really make a fool of yourself. For starters, it’s not good for you to jump on difficult dances. Instead of trying to be Michael Jackson, try first to imitate your favorite local dancer. Learning is a ladder process. You can’t just skip steps in order to get what you want. Examine your level of ability first and weigh down more rational options.
5. Have A Healthy Body.
That phrase above is really much abused these days but still much related to dancing. If you’re 5’6″ but weighs 200 pounds, instead of trying to make a cartwheel, you’ll look like a bowling ball. For beginners and experts alike, a healthy body is a must to dance well. Eat a balanced diet and do some cardio workout like a 30-minute jog every morning.
These simple tricks did me well and I’m on my way to enjoying dances each chance I get. I hope you’ll not give up just yet, not ever. It’s always nice to try and let’s see what you got. Learn to dance now and be yourself in many ways.

It’s Friday night and time to hit the dance floor. And for the hardcore party animals, almost every night is a time to celebrate at the city’s hottest discotheques or pubs. Some people don’t need a reason to party and for others, life itself is a party in its own.
One of the most commonly faced problem by regular party-going gals has always been what they should wear for the same. A tricky question especially when you are on the run, from that very important business meeting to the brightly lit dance floor. One way to tackle this would be to coordinate your work wardrobe in such a way, that it should enable you to transform a formal look into a party outfit within no time. Jazz up the skirt with a funky belt, put on some exotic danglers, or pull on an elaborately designed shrug to break the monotony.
However, for the party animals who do not believe in compromising with their look, here are a few tips to have a closet full of party outfits that can be mixed and matched to achieve different looks. Razzle-dazzle everybody with the options mentioned below:
A basic black dress is obviously a must for any girl. Throw in a metal belt or a colored stole to break the monotony. But girls, there’s a whole lot of options apart from the sexy black dress. Flirty cocktail halter dresses will sure make you an instant hit amongst all the party-goers. It could be printed or plain, simple or detailed, the choice is yours. Throw your cares to the wind with an asymmetrical halter dress which can have slight frills at the edge. Crystals adorning the neckline and slits at the side for flashing your perfect legs can make you feel and look exotic anytime. It could be dressed up or down, be it a formal occasion or a casual get-together at the local pub. The shorter the dress the more legroom it has to offer for perfecting the pirouette with your partner.
Go elegant with a halter gown, if you are not too confident when it comes to short dresses. Plunging necklines, embellishments, studs, metal buckles down the front, silver clasp detailing, sequins on the borders, all go in creating a chic look for the party-goer. Keyhole design at the neck, work well with halters. Your halter could also have a corset style fashion on the front.
Worn short or long, the skirt will give you a feminine look and can transform any boring party into a rocking one. A denim skirt can be teamed with any top but if you want to move beyond plain denims, then go in for Lycra. Micro minis in Lycra can be found studded with rhinestones, diamonds, lace, and even medallions for people who love to splurge on exotic club wear. Skirts can be pleated or in tiers, with jagged edges, or even sporting chains. The idea is to stand apart from the crowd. Get adventurous and experiment with the colors, patterns, and fabrics. Jazz it up with accessories and watch the heads turn. You can even go wild with animal prints.
Forget your normal denim jeans as normal is boring. Turn your night-out into an evening of adventure with some great pants. Beaded crochet pants, wrap around pants, pants made of crepe, or layered mesh pants are hot this season. The fashion vixen in you will feel complete when you don a pair of wide leg mesh pants, which also come in a see-through material and have some layers of mesh fabric flowing around them. If you wish to keep it minimal and yet be the center of attention then, go in for solid bright colors with regular cuts. Wear a super, sizzling, red hot-pant if you dare to go beyond the obvious. This really short number needs to be complimented with a great pair of high-heeled boots.
Catsuits are full-bodied suits that range from the flashy to the exotic kind of club wear. These are available in a mind-boggling variety like the steel metallic look to the animal prints with faux-fur trims. Rhinestone-studded catsuits are most preferred though one has also seen the rising demand for bizarre materials like fishnet catsuits or vinyl ones.
You don’t really need to wait for an occasion to sport a specially-designed costume at a party. Get the sensuous look in a sailor outfit. Wear striped bustiers, with striped leggings with a blue short, and pleated skirt. Combine with a trendy white cap and you are ready to rock. Or showcase the rebel in you with a pirate costume. You need not have to elaborate with this but a few different items combined can certainly do the trick. Wear a black corset over a 3-layered ruffled dress, and combine with black boots and a pirate hat. Or go in for the cowgirl look with loads of brown, hats, high-heeled suede boots, checkered shirts, and ultra-tight denims.
No form of dance can ever be complete without the use of appropriate dance wear. Can you ever imagine the 80s’ screen scorcher ‘Dirty Dancing’ showcasing its female lead, Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman (Jennifer Grey) in pink jazz pants and fluffy tops? Not a chance in a million! ‘Baby’s’ stunning moves were complemented with dainty figure-hugging dresses and stretchable Lycra-based outfits.
If you are a dancer, you can probably gauge the significance of a dance wear. Life would be very bland without color. The same holds true for any performance sans the right costume. From the professionals on stage, performing to mesmerize audiences, to the nervous student learning his/her moves across the floor, dance apparel has many roles to play. And how!
To the novice, dance wear is the term affixed to the apparel worn by dancers. Different styles of dancing require varied treatment in colors, patterns, textures, and fits, and also the uniformity in design, if it is a group dance. It could be a tutu, skirt, leotard, or even a particular heeled stiletto.
Comfort is the keyword. Every dance form has a particular technique, and the costume should allow maximum freedom of movement. Some dances require a lot of aerobic styled steps, whereas some incorporate slow, sleek, and sensuous moves. The dance wear has to enable the dancer to express himself/herself in the best possible way. A costume that causes the performer to fret about it all the time, is simply not going the right way. When a dancer rehearses or performs on stage, any uncomfortable costume will prove to be a hindrance in performing his/her moves.
The ultimate attire will give that added boost to the dancer. It could be seductive for those who love to accentuate their figures. Some go in for ‘safer’ options. This choice will depend heavily upon the kind of dance, and the place where it will be performed.
Choosing the Appropriate Dance Costume
Mention the term ballet dance, and the mind conjures up images of delicate, flexible, and elegant dancers, with every move expressed in a graceful way. Ballet dancers possess the charm and rhythm that requires years of dedicated practice.
What to Wear:
When in class, the attire should be more practical. Avoid the fuss and frills, as it may take many a step to actually master the finer nuances of this art form. A simple leotard teamed with tights and slippers, is more suitable for your first few pirouettes.
While performing on stage, tights are the basic and most common kind of dance wear seen on the circuit. They offer flexibility without making the dancer feel uncomfortable. However, there is more to ballet dance wear than just plain leotards. It can range from exquisitely crafted skirts and tops to leggings.
The ‘En Pointe’ form of ballet requires the use of pointe shoes. Worn mainly by women, these sturdy pairs assist the dancers in their toe-work, which is the most important factor in ballet. An uncomfortable pair of shoes will have the dancer appear in a bad light. The ballet tutus were specially designed to show off the dancer’s legwork.
Though this dance form also requires a lot of flexibility and grace, it is poles apart from the ballet style of dancing. One can catch sight of many forms of jazz that are rising in their popularity. Which is plainly the reason why, we have the mushrooming of numerous dance classes on every nook and corner. Modern Jazz, Old-Fashion Jazz, Street Jazz, are some of the popular categories.
What to Wear:
Think jazz, and think flashy, bright, and sexy, well-fitted costumes. The jazz dance primarily concentrates on every movement of your body. You, therefore, cannot have layered clothing or fluffed up skirts. It has it own distinct glamorous touch. Short-cropped tops, leotard pants, flared jazz pants for men, halter tops, palazzo pants, booty shorts (hot pants), etc., form the base for jazz dance wear. These can be further embellished with crystals and sequins to add a subtle shimmer. The cut of the silhouette is of prime importance, and they should have a blend of stretch. The ensemble cannot be complete without the perfect pair of jazz shoes that are a must-have item to provide flexibility to your feet as well. Some of them are crafted to give a feel of wearing no shoes at all!
It takes two to tango for this form. Mainly popular in Latin America, the ballroom dancing requires discipline, and of course, a very interesting partner! Cha-cha, Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, etc., are dances that require the partners to have a high level of chemistry, and ooze sensuality on the floor. Don’t let the intricacy of the steps deter you. A good instructor can transform you into a dancing diva.
What to Wear:
Shine on the floor with flowing fabrics, fitting halter-tops, bright colors, and sexy, elegant dresses. The ladies are spoiled for choice, by the variety of the sparkling, shiny numbers available at all leading stores. Apart from being comfortable, these gorgeous dresses and skirts boost the morale of the ladies, as they feel good, which, in turn, makes them look good! Highly glamorous, it will encourage you to be fit for that most awaited party of the year.
High-heeled stilettos available in a splash of colors complement the look. These are usually preferable when fitted with back-straps. Choose the right height for your heel, as it proves to be an important factor for all your swirls and twirls.
Men are not left behind, when it comes to Latin dance wear. You can find an array of options from fitting pants with clean cuts, to the sleek formal shirts available in fresh colors.
Hip Hop dance:
Hip hop dance offers a freestyle form of dancing, and gives the dancer the freedom to showcase his/her attitude. It can be performed in groups, and can be done as a solo. It has carved a niche for itself in the music and fashion industry.
What to Wear:
Be yourself and wear your attitude on your sleeve. That’s the motto. White cargo pants, flashy shirts, trucker caps, racer backs, funky leggings, micro minis accessorized with heavy gold or sliver jewelry! Take your pick. Girls can team their low-waist denims with a sexy, stylish undershirt. Whatever you wear, add a dash of originality and get ready to sizzle!
Also seen in hip hop, the break dance has caught the fancy of many. Head spins, cartwheels, splits, and the moonwalk have found their way into the rooms of many Michael Jackson wannabes. Whether it is on the stage or the dance class, break dance requires you to groove on the floor with a lot of power combined with athletic moves. Hence, it is thought to be more suitable for males.
What to Wear:
You need your apparel to be highly comfortable, if you are thinking of doing that head spin on the floor. Hooded jackets, nylon tracksuits that minimize friction, fitting vests, etc., can go hand-in-hand with sporty wristbands and colorful bandannas. The upper wear can be less baggy as compared to the pants combined with it.
